EXPERIENCE
1. Significant experience in formulating trade and business development plans, with proven results through the travel trade.
2. An existing network of contacts within the local trade and the distribution network.
3. Demonstrated experience in the tourism/travel industry with a sound knowledge of the structure and operation of the industry.
4. A thorough understanding of issues relating to the group travel market and the Approved Destination Status (ADS) Program.
5. Proven experience in coordinating trade events involving multiple participants, contractors and venues.
6. Thorough understanding of the market and its culture.
7. Proven track record in developing partnership programs that deliver successful returns for participants.
8. Demonstrated proactive approach to establishing positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
1. Demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes through other people.
2. Ability to plan, prioritise, organise, monitor and co-ordinate workloads, deliver agreed outcomes, work effectively under pressure as part of a team and independently to meet deadlines, organise work and set priorities covering a range of projects.
3. Attention to detail, ability to multi-task take initiative and are proactive.
4. High level written and oral English and Mandarin are required for the preparation and delivery of business plans and reports and for the extensive liaison and networking necessary. Proficiency in Cantonese would be an advantage.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Project.
6. Knowledge of destination relevant products is desirable.
OTHER

--Relationship management 25%
1.Develop excellent working relationships and networks with key trade partners in Shanghai and key gateway cities in Eastern China with retailers, wholesalers, airlines.
2.Develop excellent working relationships with colleagues of the China and other international offices, as well as colleagues in Head Office, to ensure activities support the destination strategic goals and outcomes.
3.Provide a consultative service to the tourism industry including participating meetings, presentations and provision of written reports as required.
4.Analyse China market trends to obtain knowledge of the marketplace and communicate it to stakeholders.
5.Identify co-operative marketing opportunities in conjunction with key industry partners and submit to Regional Manager, China for action.
6.Represent destination tourism at relevant industry functions, many of which may be outside normal working hours. All issues regarding internal and external relationships must be raised and resolved promptly in timely fashion and documented as required.
7.Positive, reported feedback from industry partners – both Chinese and overseas suppliers.
8.Monitor various information sources to gather relevant and timely intelligence, insights and information about market.
9.Create a system to share these insights with destination’s partners and stakeholders.
10.Number of co-operative marketing opportunities identified.
--Product Development 25%
1.Identify market needs and existing gaps which could be suitably filled by product.
2.Increase relevant product and presence in both multi-destination itineraries and as well as mono destination packages.
3.Develop tour packages, including major events, with wholesale partners to increase the number and variety of FIT packages available in-market. 4.Create a system to report product inclusions to Destination partners and stakeholders.
5.Increase destination relevant product represented in wholesale programs.
6.Increase the number and variety of quality FIT. itineraries/packages promoted in-market (target as per annual business plan).
7.Work with wholesalers to improve the quality of product and itineraries for sale to the group travel market.
8.Use detailed knowledge of the market, to introduce product to suitable wholesalers and retailers with the aim of continually expanding the range of product in the marketplace.
9.Increase the development and promotion of mono or multiple destination itineraries/packages promoted in market to increase yield, dispersal and increase overnight visitor expenditure (target as per annual business plan).
--Trade Support and Education. 25%
1.Organise trade familiarisation tours for trade partners in cooperation with the Trade Events and Famils business unit to provide key retail and wholesale agents with opportunities for a first-hand experience of the tourism product, assisting agents to confidently sell destination relevant product.
2.Develop and implement an extensive travel trade support and education program for sales, reservation and product development staff in the travel organisations based in Shanghai and Eastern China that are selling destination product. This will include seminars, sales calls and industry events.
3.Work with other relevant partners on a range of trade development activities.
4.Undertake a program of regular sales calls and training sessions, as well as providing relevant collateral and other promotional materials to support trade training.
5.Represent Destination at major travel trade and consumer travel shows, including where appropriate, business event trade shows.
6.Assist with the organisation and execution of tourism trade missions.
7.Develop an annual calendar of sales calls and training programmes.
8.Provide input and participation into the Specialist Program to ensure the tourism board receives coverage commensurate with investment.
9.Identify relevant trade shows for participation or attending and calculate ROI for each.
10.Assist with a minimum 1 trade mission co-ordinated per year.
11.Trade training sessions/product presentations undertaken per year as identified in annual business plan.
12.Achieve a minimum of 15 new sales leads per trade event.
13.Adhere to sales call schedule and provide reports on the outcome of those calls.
--Operational and financial management (including reporting). 15%
1.Develop, implement and monitor trade and business development plans, ensuring the budget is effectively managed for each project in consultation with the Regional Manager, China.
2.Ensure all activities are delivered within agreed budget.
3.Produce monthly reports on all activities undertaken, including contributing to the monthly Board Report for China. Advise on market needs and opportunities, and to ensure the timely development of project plans and briefs.
4.Update and ensure CRM system accurately reflects internal & external customers with whom the position engages.
5.Ensure tasks undertaken adhere to all Destination policies and procedures and observe all relevant Chinese laws. All issues regarding administrative support activities raised and resolved promptly in timely fashion and documented as required.
6.Budget monitored and all activities delivered within budget. Any variances are advised to the Regional Manager, China and documented as required.
7.All internal and external reports accurate and delivered to deadline.
8.CRM system maintained providing a qualified database of contacts.
9.Adhere to all Destination Policies and Procedures.
10.Operational and financial management (including reporting) cont.
11.Ensure all physical and electronic business records are stored and maintained in recordkeeping system as mandated by Government.
12.Contribute to the Destination tourism strategic, operational and budgetary planning processes.
13.Develop and/or contribute to succinct, timely, informative and accurate briefings, papers and corporate reporting requirements.
14.Be proactive in suggesting areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions.
15.Work with the Regional Manager, China to monitor and review performance to ensure achievement of departmental goals and job satisfaction. Appropriate storage of all files and documentation maintained.
16.Create/ prepare and discuss all KPIs for new financial year with the Regional Manager, China for the Half-Year review by Dec. 1st & Yearly Performance review by April, 1st.
17.Past financial year personal Yearly Performance review discussed with Regional Manager, China and approved by June, 30th.
18.All personal Learning & Development needs identified, discussed and approved by Regional Manager, China by June, 30th.
--Team work and collaboration. 10%
1.Close collaboration with overseas Destination Head Office.
2.Foster a collaborative team spirit focused on service delivery to both internal and external clients.
3.Proactively keep up to date with issues that may impact the Visitor Economy and actively participate as team member across Destination tourism, contributing to and undertaking special projects and activities, as required.
4.Represent Destinationat industry, Government and public forums and on working parties and committees as requested.
5.Promote teamwork and achievement of common purpose by encouraging all Destination colleagues to share information and ideas.
6.Undertake other duties as directed by the Regional Manager, China and Regional Director, North Asia.
7.All issues regarding the team work addressed in a timely fashion and documented as required.
8.Information and advice provided to other Destination business units in a timely manner.
9.Destination Tourism Board represented in an appropriate manner.
